Little Charlie Centipede grew up in a very poor family. They hardly had anything to eat, and no toys whatsoever. Poor, poor they were indeed. When Charlie grew up he left home to meet the world as do all centipedes when they grow up. Now, Charlie never knew he was poor because no one ever told him. So he was happy. Happy until he met the world.
Everyone laughed at Charlie and made fun of his big bare feet. Since centipedes have about a thousand feet, there was a lot to laugh at. All poor Charlie heard all day long was, “Ha! ha! ha! Poor centipede has no shoes. This made Charlie feel real bad.
Charlie took what little he had and went to a used shoe store that advertised cheap shoes. Cheap they would have to be for Charlie had a thousand feet. Alas and alack! Even cheap, all he could afford was one pair. And what’s worse, all they had in Charlie’s size was an old pair of tap dancing shoes. He bought them thinking he could put them on his back feet and learn to walk upright. After all, he’d heard a lot of parents tell their kids to stand up straight.
Well that’s what Charlie did and it wasn’t easy. It was a matter of learning balance and Charlie kind of swung and swayed. However, unknown to Charlie, those shoes had once belonged to a Dancing Master and they were magic. As soon as Charlie stood up, his two back feet started tapping out the most fantastic rhythms imaginable. Everyone noticed and came for miles to listen to Charlie, the world’ most talented centipede. They applauded and stood in line for Charlie’s autograph.
It goes to show if you put your best foot forward, even a centipede will succeed. Boop, boop-a-doop!
