Desmond was a very gentle, loving dragon. He wouldn’t hurt a fly and he loved pretty flowers. Most of the other dragons kind of looked down on Desmond, they thought he was a namby pamby sissy. He was easily pushed around and they called him mean names. Desmond never lashed out or retaliated in any form, he just felt bad and wondered if he’d done something wrong.
Desmond did have one friend who treated him nice and showed him love and respect. That was little Susie, a sweet dragon of the female persuasion. One day Susie was playing with her toys, which she frequently shared with Desmond, when down out of the sky came two huge bully robber dragons. They demanded that Susie give them her toys or else. Susie told them no. So the huge bully robber dragons began to beat on little Susie.
All of a sudden Desmond’s wings unfolded (for the first time as any one could recall), his claws came out, and there was more fire-breathing coming from Desmond than had ever been seen from any dragon. Desmond jumped into the fray and there was one whale of a ruckus. Those two huge bully robber dragons got the beating of a lifetime. They ran away to never be seen again.
After that no one had anything unkind to say to Desmond, and he was treated with great respect. In fact, the other dragons took up flower-smelling and discovered the merits of it. Goes to show two things, never judge a book by its cover and be careful when yanking someone’s chain.
