Percy was a wee, small meadow mouse. He lived quietly and in harmony with his fellow creatures. Well, most of the time anyway. Percy did have one small bad habit. He couldn’t help it, he was somehow born that way. It seems that if he was frightened he would belch.
Big deal you say! Well, in this case it was because Percy’s belch was more than a little different. It was very, very loud and sounded like a combination of a roaring lion, freight train and tornado all at the same time. It was so bad and scary the leaves would fall off the trees and everyone in earshot would faint and stay that way for ten minutes.
Otherwise Percy was a real likable wee mouse. Some suggested maybe a muzzle would help. Others said that wouldn’t stop sound, it would just make it hard for Percy to eat. “True, true, oh what can we do?” they said.
Suddenly, the biggest meanest bear ever seen started up the hill toward where all the peaceful little creatures were playing. That ol’ bear thought he had spotted his lunch. He growled very loudly and all the little creatures cowered under a tree wishing there was a place to hide, but there was none.
About that time Percy, the wee mouse who had been taking a nap, was wakened by the ruckus. The sight of that bear only ten feet away caused Percy to have the biggest belch in his life. The blast from it was so fierce, the leaves fell off the tree, and the fur flew off the bear, exposing his now very yellow skin. That bear was last seen running back down that hill going a hundred miles an hour. The little creatures were so happy they offered him a Pepsi. Percy said, “Thank you, but that might also make me burp.” They told him it was no problem because his burps were now music to their ears. It goes to show there is good in almost everything, you just have to look for it.
