The monkey family was made up of the father Magnus, the mother Lucy, and two teenage sons, Chuck and Bertram. Let’s see, yes that’s four monkeys. The monkey family lived in a jungle in India. They lived in peace and harmony with everyone else which was quite a group of mongooses, tapirs, spotted squirrels, pygmy pigs, and more different little creatures than anyone could imagine.
One day everyone’s nose began to twitch and fear mounted. They smelled fire. The jungle was on fire! Fire, the dreaded enemy of all little creatures. Panic set in, and they started running toward a river with an island in it. They knew if they went to the island they would be safe because fire can’t cross water. What they didn’t count on was discovering that just a few feet from the river was a high cliff. They couldn’t jump down, it was too far and they would break their bones. Oh my! What to do? The fire was fast approaching.
This was no problem, however, for the monkey family because they could climb up or down almost anything. Magnus monkey looked over the edge and said, “Aha! Look at that.” Some fisherman had forgotten to take his campsite blanket with him when he left. Magnus said, “Just give me and my family a minute and we will climb down, get the blanket, and stretch it tight from all four corners. Then one by one you can each safely jump down onto the blanket and it will cushion your fall.”
One by one they jumped down and swam to the island, just in the knick of time. All were rescued and the monkey family became very popular. After all they had just invented the trampoline. Yes, necessity is certainly the mother of invention.
