Sam and Samantha Leprechaun had twin sons whose names were Wink and Blink. Like all Leprechaun children, at the age of one they graduated from diapers to the form of any woodland creature they chose. Since Leprechauns are wee folk, this is to protect them until they are older and wiser.
Wink and Blink chose to look like hedgehogs. How cute. They were good little boys and a joy to their parents except for one thing. They both refused to take a bath. They indeed were sight, dirty from head to toe. All the pleading of their parents did no good because they had a thing about water. It might have been because Hedgehogs can’t swim. No one could say for sure.
Wink and Blink were approaching their fifth birthday when they would each get their first pot of gold and a new green suit. They would also magically revert to human form, but of the wee variety. Sam and Samantha were distressed by the idea of putting nice new green suits on dirty little Leprechauns. So they devised a scheme.
Now it’s a known fact among Leprechauns that when they approach the age of five they are drawn to desiring gold like a moth to a flame. Wink and Blink had been asking where their first pot of gold was. Sam and Samantha told them getting it would be like a treasure hunt, so they gave Wink and Blink a map to follow.
Wink and Blink followed the map over hill and over dale, through the woods, across the bridge, and arrived at the base of the CryingMountain. It was so called because of its exceptionally gentle waterfall. There Wink and Blink saw a big sign that said “You are almost here. Two pots of gold are in the cave behind the waterfall.” Oh no! they would get wet. But they couldn’t resist the gold, so wet they got and a bath they got.
When they arrived home with the gold so shiny, they were clean and shiny also. Sam and Samantha gave them their new green suits and all were clean and happy. It goes to show if you are going for the gold you may have to make an effort to overcome some things.
