Timothy Turtle was having no fun at all because he lived in his shell and couldn’t come out. Timothy would have liked to have asked Fanny Frog to the Spring Pond Festival Dance. But he felt he just couldn’t because no one made a tuxedo that would fit around a shell. And if he stood up on two feet he’d just fall over on his back and have to cry for his mommy until some kind person turned him over. That was a no fun life for Timothy Turtle.
Timothy was telling Osgood Owl about his problem and Osgood said, “Let me think about it.” After a while Osgood said, “I have a solution.” He explained and got his tools out. He cut a big wide door in Timothy’s shell, installed hinges on one side and a latch on the other. He also put a little bar inside for Timothy to hang a tuxedo on.
Wow, Dynamite! Timothy was now driving a sporty convertible and he took Fanny Frog to the dance. When they got there, Timothy parked his shell and stepped out wearing a dashing tuxedo. Timothy and Fanny had a wonderful time and danced for hours. My, what fun Timothy was having!
After the dance Timothy took Fanny home and then securely latched his shell for the night. In the morning Osgood Owl came by and asked Timothy what he had learned from the experience. Timothy replied that he had discovered that security and safety is good, but once in a while one must risk coming out of his shell if he is to have any joy and fun in life. Yes indeed, life is all about taking calculated risks.
