Five little kittens up in the State of Maine were playing in a rowboat that was tied to a small dock on a large pond. They were attracted to the row boat because it had a fishy smell. Somehow the rope came loose and before they knew it the five little kittens had drifted out to the middle of the pond.
When they discovered their plight, it was “Woe is us, mew, mew, mew, help, help, mew” Little kittens couldn’t swim. Max Moose, a kindly fellow, heard their cries. Max, being taller than the water was deep, waded right out and told the five little kittens to jump upon his back and he’d take them to the shore safely. This Max did and the five little kittens were overjoyed. They thanked Max many times and then scurried down the shoreline while Max waded back out to feed on water plants.
Without warning they came upon a hunter just starting to aim his rifle at Max. “Oh no!” they cried. And without hesitation all five of them jumped on the hunter and began to give him what for as only little kittens could muster. They really weren’t big enough to do harm; but they could certainly harass. The hunter found it as uncomfortable as a swarm of bees. He dropped his rifle in the water (good place for it) and ran for home hollering, “Help, help! Mountain Lions everywhere” The kittens were right pleased with themselves and Max had no idea as to what had almost transpired. It seems to be a kindness repaid is a kindness indeed.
