Petey Opossum was such a scaredy cat that when frightened he couldn’t even play opossum. He’d just stand there too petrified to fall down and play opossum. This used to worry Petey’s mother because being able to play opossum was essential to a opossum’s survival. She knew it kept opossums from being all gobbled up by some big ferocious beast. Oh my! That’s too spooky to even think about. All of Peteys friend’s used to make fun of him. This made Petey feel very bad because no one likes to be made fun of.
Then one day Petey and his little opossum friends were out playing in the roadway when the Bully Bear Brothers came along. They liked having fun by being mean. So the Bully Bear Brothers hollered “Boo” at the little opossums and they all fell over playing opossum. The Bully Bear Brothers laughed and said to each other, “That’s what we call fun.” Then they noticed Petey who was too scared to fall over. All he could do was stand there and stare at the Bully Bear Brothers who didn’t know what to make of that. An opossum that did not faint at the first boo? They began to wonder and be fearful themselves. They wondered if that little opossum had a secret weapon and was about to use it on them. Imagination got the best of the Bully Bear Brothers and they turned around and ran for home hollering all the way “Mama, some mean little opossum has scared us.” After that, Petey Opossum was a hero among opossums. He said to his fellow little opossums that there were two lessons to be learned from all of this. One was there is nothing to fear but fear itself, and the other was, never flee from a bully.

Very enjoyable Gary. Thanks for telling us and good for you for following your passion. Bob and Wanda
